According to the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, FM Abdelatty congratulated Šuica on her new role and expressed optimism about building on the recent momentum in Egypt-EU relations.

This follows the agreement to launch a comprehensive strategic partnership in March 2024.

The minister highlighted the importance of deepening political and economic cooperation, particularly in trade and investment, to match the political progress achieved between the two sides.

Minister Abdelatty underscored the need to implement the reforms agreed upon at the June 2024 Egypt-EU Investment Conference in Cairo.

The conference resulted in 29 agreements worth approximately 49 billion euros.

He underscored the urgency of implementing the EU's 7.4-billion-euro funding package for Egypt, which is tied to the upgraded partnership.

This includes disbursing the first tranche of one billion euros and securing the European parliament’s approval for the second tranche of four billion euros.

The discussion also focused on bolstering Egypt-EU cooperation in the Mediterranean to address shared challenges.

Abdelatty stressed the need to adhere to principles of respect for sovereignty, peace, security, and international law. He highlighted that enhancing cooperation would be helpful to the Mediterranean countries.

For her part, Šuica expressed her appreciation for Egypt's constructive efforts in its regional sphere, recognizing the country as a cornerstone of stability in the Middle East.
