This marks the first visit by an Iranian president to Egypt in over a decade.
Baghaei said that Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi will also participate in the upcoming 21st Council of Foreign Ministers meeting of the D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation (D-8) in Cairo on Wednesday.
The meeting serves as a preparatory session for the upcoming D-8 Summit.
The summit will convene under the theme “Investing in Youth and Supporting SMEs: Shaping Tomorrow’s Economy."
The D-8, which groups Egypt, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Turkey, was established in 1997 to improve cooperation between the countries stretching from Southeast Asia to Africa.
Notably, all D-8 members are also part of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
Egyptian-Iranian relations have seen significant improvement in recent years, particularly after decades of strained ties since the Islamic Revolution in Iran and Egypt's peace treaty with Israel in 1979.
Despite many forms of cooperation in multilateral forums, especially the UN Security Council, relations between Egypt and Iran have remained below the full ambassadorial level.
In February 2013, Former Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad made the first visit by an Iranian president to Egypt since 1979.
In 2023, diplomatic efforts were reinvigorated, leading to a series of high-level meetings, signalling both nations' intent to normalize relations, especially after the Israeli war in Gaza.
