The ambassador indicated that Turkey will attend the 11th D-8 Summit at the highest levels, adding that Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan will participate in the summit’s preparatory ministerial meeting on Wednesday.

The Turkish presidency stated that President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will visit Egypt on Thursday, 10 December, to attend the 11th D-8 Summit and the special session on the situation in Palestine and Lebanon.

Meanwhile, the Turkish ambassador noted that the D-8, the brainchild of former Prime Minister Necmettin Erbakan of Turkey, focuses on economic cooperation and development through the unity of important emerging economies of the Islamic World.

As one of the most important economies in the region with political and diplomatic prominence, Egypt’s term chairmanship in the coming period of D-8 will significantly contribute towards fulfilling the D-8 goals. Türkiye will closely cooperate with Egypt to that end, noted Şen.

He highlighted that the summit will also witness several bilateral meetings amid a watershed time of regional developments.

Şen said President Abbas and Prime Minister Mikati’s attendance at the summit and holding a separate session on Palestine and Lebanon mainly reflect the importance the D-8 attributes to these developments.

Held under the theme "Investing in Youth and Supporting Small and Medium Enterprises: Shaping Tomorrow's Economy," this year's summit will focus on fostering economic collaboration among member states, with key discussions on trade, energy, and technology.

The summit provides a unique platform to address escalating crises in the Middle East by the participating leaders of the eight Muslim-majority developing nations: Egypt, Turkey, Iran, Pakistan, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Malaysia, and Nigeria.

Their presence underscores the significance of regional cooperation, especially as the region faces mounting challenges in SyriaGaza, and Lebanon.

During the summit, Egypt, the current chair of the D-8 organization, will hand over the chairmanship to Indonesia in January 2026.
