The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the meeting was a preparatory session for the upcoming D-8 Summit, which will be chaired by Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi on Thursday, with the attendance of heads of state and government.
In his address, FM Abdelatty emphasized that the summit is taking place at "a critical time," amidst pressing regional and global events and unprecedented economic pressures on developing nations.
He also discussed the severe repercussions of the Israeli war on Gaza, including the humanitarian crisis and widespread destruction of infrastructure.

Furthermore, Abdelatty addressed the expansion of Israeli aggression into Syria and Lebanon, an aggression he described as a blatant violation of international law. He added that these recent Israeli violations led Egypt to propose a special session on Palestine and Lebanon during Thursday's summit.
Moreover, Abdelatty stressed the importance of exploring new economic and trade collaboration opportunities among D-8 members.
The D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation, known as Developing-8, was founded in 1997.
Member states include significant Muslim-majority countries such as Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Turkey, which together account for approximately 14 percent of the global population.

The group aims to enhance its members' global economic positions, create new trade opportunities, increase participation in international decision-making, and improve living standards.
The 11th D-8 Summit, themed "Investing in Youth and Supporting Small and Medium Enterprises: Shaping Tomorrow's Economy," will promote economic collaboration among member states, with key discussions on trade, energy, and technology.
