El-Sisi discusses regional developments, bilateral relations with Lebanon, Palestine, Bangladesh leaders on D-8 Summit sidelines

President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi discussed on Thursday in three separate meetings the latest regional developments and bilateral relations with Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, and Bangladeshi interim Prime Minister Mohammad Yunus on the sidelines of the D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation Summit, held in Egypt’s New Administrative Capital.

According to the Egyptian presidency, President Abdel-Fataah El-Sisi reaffirmed Egypt's unwavering support for Lebanon’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity in his meeting with Lebanese PM Najib Mikati.

He highlighted the importance of maintaining the ceasefire agreement in Lebanon and fully implementing UN Security Council Resolution 1701. The president also stressed the need to bolster the Lebanese armed forces to enable them to ensure stability in Lebanon, which contributes to the broader stability of the region.

President El-Sisi reiterated Egypt’s commitment to supporting all Lebanese state institutions during these challenging times. He expressed Egypt's readiness to provide humanitarian aid and assist Lebanon's government and institutions in effectively carrying out their responsibilities.

The two leaders also discussed regional issues, focusing on Egypt's efforts to broker a ceasefire in Gaza as a foundation for restoring regional stability. Both sides underscored their commitment to Syria's stability, security, and territorial unity. They warned against the potential escalation of conflicts and called for all parties to exercise wisdom and responsibility in restoring regional peace.

Meeting with Palestinian president
 

President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi met today with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on the sidelines of the D-8 summit. They focused on efforts to restore peace in the Palestinian territories.

According to the Egyptian presidency, discussions highlighted Egypt’s initiatives to broker a ceasefire and facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza, aiming to mitigate the ongoing humanitarian crisis and halt further bloodshed.

The two leaders also addressed the situation in the West Bank, expressing strong condemnation of repeated Israeli violations.

They affirmed that the West Bank, Gaza, and East Jerusalem constitute the territories of the State of Palestine.

El-Sisi reiterated Egypt’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people and their legitimate rights, emphasizing continued efforts to establish an independent Palestinian state along the 4 June 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Both leaders firmly rejected any attempts to displace Palestinians or undermine the Palestinian cause.

President Abbas expressed deep appreciation for Egypt’s pivotal role in achieving a ceasefire in Gaza and praised Egypt’s historic commitment to supporting the Palestinian people and their rights.

Meeting with Bangladeshi interim prime minister
 

President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi met with Mohammad Yunus, the interim Prime Minister of Bangladesh, on the sidelines of the D-8 summit.

According to the Egyptian presidency, El-Sisi expressed Egypt’s deep appreciation for the historic ties between Egypt and Bangladesh.

He emphasized the importance of enhancing cooperation across various fields, particularly in economic, investment, scientific, and cultural areas. The president also underscored Al-Azhar’s pivotal role in fostering such ties.

Yunus echoed President El-Sisi’s sentiments on advancing bilateral relations, highlighting the significant place Al-Azhar holds in the hearts of the Bangladeshi people and praising its enduring role in combating extremism and terrorism.

The meeting also addressed regional developments, particularly in Gaza, Lebanon, and Syria, as well as Egypt’s efforts to restore security and stability and safeguard the rights of affected populations.

Younus commended Egypt’s fundamental role in promoting stability in the Middle East, advocating for the causes of the Islamic world and developing nations. He reiterated Bangladesh’s desire to elevate cooperation with Egypt to reflect the historical bonds shared by the two countries.
