FM Abdelatty discusses developments in Syria with Russian counterpart Lavrov

Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Badr Abdelatty, discussed the recent developments in Syria with Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said on Sunday.

According to the ministry, both sides affirmed the importance of supporting the Syrian state and respecting its sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity. They also agreed to coordinate efforts among key stakeholders to support Syria during its transitional phase.

The two sides stressed the need to prioritize the interests of all Syrians and enable a comprehensive political process that heeds no foreign dictates, restores stability, and safeguards Syria's security, future, and resources.

Similarly, the Russian embassy said the two ministers expressed in their telephone call support for the proactive role of the United Nations Secretary-General and his Special Envoy to Syria, Geir Pedersen, in advancing international efforts to promote stability and achieve civil peace in the country through a comprehensive, inclusive, and entirely Syrian political process under the principles outlined in UN Security Council Resolution 2254.

Furthermore, the two ministers discussed the latest developments in Gaza.

Abdelatty informed his Russian counterpart of Egypt's intensive efforts to achieve an immediate and lasting ceasefire and facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid to the region.

According to the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two ministers also discussed bilateral political, economic, and investment ties between Egypt and Russia.

They focused on joint development projects, such as the Russian Industrial Zone in the Suez Canal Economic Zone and the Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant.
