Egypt FM discusses developments in Gaza, Syria with UK national security adviser

Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty discussed the rapid developments in the region, with the Palestinian issue taking centre stage, on Thursday with Jonathan Powell, the national security adviser to the UK prime minister, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated.

According to the Egyptian foreign ministry, Minister Abdelatty reviewed Cairo's efforts to achieve an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, stressing the need to ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid to the territory and halt systematic violations committed by Israel against Palestinians, which contravene international conventions.

He reiterated the necessity of reaching a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue, ensuring the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on the 4 June 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The meeting also explored developments in Syria. Abdelatty outlined Egypt’s stance, underscoring full support for the Syrian people, the stabilization of the state, the preservation of its national institutions, and respect for its territorial integrity.

He stressed the importance of Syrians’ right to an inclusive political transition, free from external interference, to support the country’s unity and stability.

Discussions extended to the latest developments in Sudan. Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt's call for a ceasefire, the urgent delivery of humanitarian aid to Sudan, and the empowerment of its national institutions to ensure stability.

The two officials also discussed ways to enhance bilateral relations, where Minister Abdelatty emphasized the importance of advancing ties across political, economic, and investment sectors.
