Abdelatty affirmed in a phone call with Blinken that this process must be nationally owned and free from external impositions. It should also contribute to security and stability in Syria while preserving its unity and territorial integrity.

According to a press release by the US Department of State, Blinken stressed, in return, his country's support for a Syrian-led and Syrian-owned political transition to a representative and accountable government.

Meanwhile, the Egyptian foreign ministry said Abdelatty also discussed the situation in the Gaza Strip with Blinken, emphasizing the importance of ongoing regional and global efforts to achieve an immediate ceasefire.

According to the ministry, Abdelatty stressed ensuring unobstructed delivery of humanitarian aid to the besieged Gaza Strip and called on Israel to cease its aggressive policies toward the Palestinian people.

He also affirmed Egypt's strong condemnation of Israel's systematic targeting of healthcare infrastructure and hospitals in Gaza in clear violation of international law and international humanitarian law.

The US State Department said in turn that Blinken also reviewed the ongoing efforts to release the hostages in Gaza with Abdelatty and expressed the USA's deep appreciation for Egypt's critical role in promoting peace, security, and stability in the region.
