Egypt's Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty and his Somali counterpart Ahmed Moalim Fiqi
Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty affirmed Egypt's stance in a phone call with his Somali counterpart Ahmed Moalim Fiqi.
The call comes just two weeks after Fiqi visited Cairo, where Egypt and Somalia emphasized the importance of expediting the deployment of the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), effective January 2025.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abdelatty and Fiqi discussed bilateral relations during the call.
Abdelatty reiterated Egypt's steadfast support, in line with international law, for Somalia's sovereignty, unity, independence, and territorial integrity to achieve peace and stability.
He also emphasized Cairo's ongoing support for Somalia's national institutions, offering technical assistance to streamline their work to meet the aspirations of the Somali people.
In December, Cairo and Mogadishu agreed to build on their bilateral relations to form a strategic partnership.
