“Cairo is looking forward to Indonesia’s participation in all aspects of the group’s activities to enhance cooperation in various fields of mutual interest and achieve development for their peoples,” the statement read.

This comes mainly in light of the convergence of positions and visions on many topics and issues on the group’s agenda, especially in economic, financial, and monetary cooperation, the ministry said.

Egypt also highlighted that Indonesia’s entry to the group represents an additional bridge of cooperation between both countries, which enjoy historical and distinguished relations at all levels.

On Monday, Brazil, which holds the group’s rotating presidency in 2025, announced that Indonesia had become a full member of BRICS.

BRICS was created in 2009 by founding members, Brazil, Russia, India, and China. In 2010, South Africa joined the bloc.

In 2024, the group was expanded again, with Egypt, Iran, Ethiopia, and the UAE becoming full members.
