In a statement on Wednesday, the foreign ministry said the Egyptian embassies in Kinshasa and Kigali are coordinating with the concerned authorities to provide the necessary support to the Egyptian community members.

On Monday, Rwanda-backed M23 rebels reportedly seized Goma, the largest city in eastern DRC, prompting the DRC to sever ties with Rwanda, describing the move as a “declaration of war.”

As a precaution, the Egyptian foreign ministry designated the following contact numbers for Egyptian citizens seeking support during this crisis.

  • Consular Sector of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs: +2 01022775692
  • Egyptian Embassy in Kigali: +250 790361574 (phone and WhatsApp) — WhatsApp Service at +2 01018007699
  • Egyptian Embassy in Kinshasa: +243 900344443

The violence in Goma has reportedly resulted in the death of 13 UN peacekeepers and triggered panic among the city’s two million residents.

Earlier on Tuesday, Egypt voiced deep concern over the DRC crisis, urging de-escalation and supporting African Union mediation.
