Egypt, Iraq firmly reject Palestinians’ displacement: PM Madbouly in Baghdad

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly affirmed Thursday the Egyptian-Iraqi unified stance in firmly rejecting any measures that could lead to the forced displacement of Palestinians to neighbouring countries.

During a press conference with his Iraqi counterpart Mohammed Shia' Al Sudani in  Baghdad, the Egyptian PM considered such measures as an attempt to liquidate the Palestinian cause.

Madbouly also reaffirmed both countries' unwavering support for the Palestinians' right to establish an independent state within the 4 June 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.  

For his part, Al Sudani praised Egypt’s diplomatic efforts, particularly its mediation with Qatar and the US to reach a ceasefire agreement in Gaza, expressing hope for an eventual end to the devastating war.  

He also affirmed Iraq's support for regional efforts to foster security and stability, achieve a comprehensive and sustainable ceasefire, and prevent further escalation of conflict.

Egypt-Iraq Joint Higher Committee
 

According to the Egyptian cabinet, Madbouly and Al Sudani chaired the third session of the Egypt-Iraq Joint Higher Committee, which culminated in both sides signing its final report.

The Egyptian PM underscored Cairo's commitment to supporting Iraq in reclaiming its historical role as an industrial and agricultural powerhouse in the Arab world, the Egyptian cabinet said.

In recognition of the current regional challenges, both sides agreed on the necessity of comprehensive cooperation across all sectors, both politically and economically.  

Both premiers also held bilateral talks, addressing issues of mutual concern and witnessed the signing of 12 memorandums of understanding and cooperation agreements in various fields.  

They also presided over the Egypt-Iraq Business Forum, attended by several business leaders from both countries to explore cooperation in investment and trade.

During a phone call with his Iraqi counterpart Fuad Hussein, the Egyptian FM Badr Abdelatty affirmed Cairo's steadfast support for Iraq’s security and stability.

According to the Egyptian foreign ministry, both sides addressed the recent regional developments, particularly the situation in the Gaza Strip following the ceasefire agreement.

They also discussed the latest developments in Syria, where the Egyptian FM reiterated Cairo's firm support for Syria’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity.

Abdelatty further highlighted the necessity of regional and international efforts to restore stability in Syria, the Egyptian foreign ministry said.

He emphasized the importance of launching an inclusive political process, which would pave the way for Syria’s reintegration into the regional and international landscape.
