Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty (C) heads a meeting with ministers from Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the UAE, to discuss US President Donald Trump's proposal for Egypt and Jordan to host Palestinians displaced from the Gaza Strip, in Cairo. AFP
The announcement came during a meeting between the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Jordan, and Egypt, as well as representatives of the Palestinian Authority and the Secretary General of the Arab League on Saturday.
In a joint statement released following the meeting, the participating countries expressed their unwavering support for the resilience of the Palestinians and their adherence to their legitimate rights under international law.
They also reaffirmed their rejection of any infringement on the Palestinians’ inalienable rights.
This includes “settlement activities, eviction and home demolitions, land annexation, or the displacement and forced removal of Palestinians from their land in any form or under any circumstances,” read the statement.
Additionally, the conference warned that such actions threaten stability, risk further escalation of the conflict in the region, and undermine prospects for peace and coexistence among its peoples, the statement added.
The participants also expressed their aspiration to collaborate with Trump to achieve a just and comprehensive peace in the Middle East based on the two-state solution.
Today’s conference comes amid repeated statements from Trump suggesting to "clean out" Gaza and relocate Palestinians to Egypt, Jordan and other Arab nations.
Egypt and Jordan have repeatedly voiced their strong rejection of proposals calling for the displacement or relocation of Palestinians from their land.
The Arab ministers urged the international community, particularly global and regional powers and the United Nations Security Council, to push for implementing the two-state solution to address the conflict’s root causes.
“This includes reaching a just settlement of the Palestinian cause by establishing a Palestinian state on its entire national territory, within the framework of the unity of the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, per international legitimacy resolutions and the borders of 4 June 1967,” read the statement.
The Cairo meeting also urged for an active participation in the international conference aimed at resolving the Palestinian issue and implementing the two-state solution. The conference will be co-chaired by Saudi Arabia and France and is scheduled for June 2025.
The six Arab nations also voiced their support for Egypt’s plan to host, in cooperation with the UN, an international conference for Gaza reconstruction, urging the international community and donors to contribute to this effort.
Furthermore, the participating nations emphasized the importance of keeping Palestinians on their land and recognizing their resilience and deep connection to their homeland.
Meanwhile, they also stressed the importance of maintaining the three-phase ceasefire to ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid across all areas of Gaza.
They also called for the full withdrawal of Israeli forces, rejecting any attempts to divide the strip, according to the statement.
The statement also urged empowering the Palestinian Authority to assume its responsibilities in Gaza as part of the occupied Palestinian territory, alongside the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
Additionally, it emphasized the indispensable and irreplaceable role of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) and firmly rejected any attempts to bypass or diminish its role.
The Israeli 15-month war on Gaza killed more than 47,400 Palestinians, most of them women and children, devastating the strip’s infrastructure.
