Egypt's Foreign Minister, Badr Abdelatty, discussed with his Equatorial Guinean counterpart, Simeon Oyono Esono Angue.

This came during a phone call between the two ministers regarding Equatorial Guinea’s presidency of the African Union’s (AU) Peace and Security Council (PSC) in February.

The PSC, which has been fully operational since 2004, is the AU's primary decision-making body responsible for preventing, managing, and resolving conflicts. It also plays a key role in implementing measures to combat international terrorism.

This council is comprised of 15 non-permanent members elected by the AU Executive Council. Ten members serve two-year terms and five serve five-year terms.

During the call, Abdelatty and Angue specifically addressed the evolving situations in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo and Sudan, underscoring the need to intensify efforts to reach political solutions and enhance stability across Africa.

Ahead of the upcoming AU summit, scheduled for 15-16 February in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, the two ministers reaffirmed their commitment to continued coordination within the union’s institutions.

They also agreed to mutually support their respective countries’ candidacies for international positions, highlighting the strong cooperation and solidarity ties between Egypt and Equatorial Guinea.

Both leaders reviewed the positive developments in the bilateral relationship between their countries.

Furthermore, Egypt's top diplomat emphasized the importance of strengthening economic and trade relations, encouraging private-sector investment, and promoting collaboration on mutually beneficial development projects.

Abdelatty also invited his Equatorial Guinean counterpart to visit Egypt as soon as possible to deepen their cooperation further.
