Egypt received on Monday a new batch of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip, including 33 injured and 70 companions, who were transferred via the Rafah border crossing to North Sinai hospitals.

A source in North Sinai told Ahram Online that the new batch of injured Palestinians underwent medical examinations, and the necessary treatment programmes were established.

Since the three-phase ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas took effect on 19 January, Egyptian authorities, particularly in North Sinai, have been preparing to receive the injured from Gaza.

Egypt also sent hundreds of trucks carrying food, water, and medicine to Gaza immediately after the ceasefire started to alleviate the near-starvation conditions suffered by 2.4 million Palestinians following months of Israeli blockade on the strip.

On Monday, another 340 trucks were transported through the Rafah border crossing and sent to Al-Auja and Karm Abu Salem crossings for delivery to Gaza.

Of these trucks, 310 carried aid, 25 fuel, and five cooking gas.

On Tuesday, a massive relief convoy entered the Gaza Strip via the Rafah border terminal to deliver essential humanitarian aid. This was organized by Al-Azhar's Egyptian Zakat and Charity House (EZCH) in collaboration with the Tahya Misr Fund and the Egyptian Food Bank.

The Rafah crossing, a vital entry point into Gaza, was closed in May 2024 after the Israeli military seized control of its Palestinian side, blocking most aid from reaching the strip.

The ceasefire deal followed Israel's brutal 15-month war, which left Gaza in ruins.

The Israeli war, larger in scale than any other war in history, destroyed 72 percent of homes and most of the strip's schools and hospitals.

With tens of billions in arms sales from the US, Israel has killed over 47,000 Palestinians — mostly women and children — and injured more than 110,000.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), around 14,000 Palestinians still need to be evacuated from Gaza for medical reasons.
