During a phone call, both leaders reiterated the necessity to accelerate Gaza's reconstruction process and start a political process based on the two-state solution to achieve lasting peace in the region, according to the Egyptian presidency.

On 19 January, Egypt's mediation efforts, in collaboration with Qatar and the US, successfully achieved a three-phased ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel, ending the 15-month Israeli brutal war on Gaza.

Addressing the Libyan crisis, El-Sisi and Embaló stressed the need to work towards restoring peace and stability in the country.
