Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Sheikh El-Tayyeb wishes Pope Francis swift recovery
Sheikh Ahmed El-Tayyeb, grand imam of Al-Azhar, the world's leading Sunni Islamic institution, expressed Sunday his heartfelt wishes for Pope Francis of a swift recovery, as the pope is still in critical condition following a severe asthma attack.
“I pray to Allah Almighty to grant my dear brother, Pope Francis, a swift recovery and to bless him with good health and well-being so that he may continue his journey in serving humanity,” El-Tayyeb wrote on his official Facebook page.
On Saturday, the Vatican, the spiritual and administrative centre of the Roman Catholic Church, said the 88-year-old pope is in critical condition after suffering a long asthmatic respiratory crisis that required high flows of oxygen.
According to the Vatican, the pope has been hospitalised for a week due to a severe lung infection.
The Vatican continued its Holy Year celebrations on Saturday without the pope.
