During a phone call, both sides addressed the regional developments, highlighting Egypt’s efforts to implement the Gaza ceasefire deal and facilitate the exchange of captives and detainees.
The Egyptian presidency also emphasized the need to deliver sufficient humanitarian aid to Gaza to alleviate the Palestinian humanitarian crisis.
Additionally, both leaders called on the international community to fulfil its responsibilities to protect the Palestinian people and support their rights to establish an independent state based on the 4 June 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
El-Sisi and Meloni affirmed the momentum Egyptian-Italian relations have witnessed, particularly in economy, investment, trade, and energy.
The call also touched on ways to intensify cooperation to combat irregular migration.
For her part, the Italian PM praised Egypt's efforts in this regard, which resulted in no boats carrying irregular migrants departing from Egyptian coasts since 2016.
Meloni further expressed the European countries’ appreciation of these efforts.
