Egypt FM, Congo president discuss African issues, bilateral relations

Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty discussed Wednesday African issues and bilateral relations during a meeting with Congo Republic President Denis Sassou Nguesso in Brazzaville.

During their meeting, Abdelatty delivered a message from President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi to his Congolese counterpart, highlighting the positive momentum in Egyptian-Congolese relations and Egypt’s eagerness to strengthen bilateral cooperation in priority areas that serve the interests of both nations.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Egypt’s top diplomat noted that the country’s investments in Africa have surpassed $14 billion.

He highlighted Egyptian companies' strong capabilities and expertise in Africa, enabling them to undertake significant projects across various critical sectors.

Meanwhile, the Egyptian FM and the Congolese president discussed the latest developments in the ceasefire negotiations in Gaza, with Abdelatty expressing his appreciation for Africa’s historic support for the rights of the Palestinian people. 

On Lybia, FM Abdelatty congratulated President Sassou Nguesso on his successful efforts in securing the signing of the Libyan reconciliation agreement during the recent African Union summit.

Additionally, they reviewed developments in Sudan and ongoing efforts to resolve the crisis and end the conflict.

For his part, President Sassou Nguesso conveyed his greetings to President El-Sisi and expressed deep appreciation for the close ties between Egypt and Congo. 

He commended Egypt’s active role in Africa and its efforts to enhance security and stability, affirming his commitment to strengthening economic cooperation to advance the shared interests of both nations.
