The abducted Egyptians were transferred from the conflict areas in central Khartoum to Port Sudan and safely returned to Egypt.
Earlier in the Sudanese war, Egyptian soldiers stationed in Sudan for joint military training were also detained by the RSF at Merowe Airbase.
In April 2023, war broke out between the Sudanese army led by the country's de facto ruler, Abdel-Fattah al-Burhan, and the paramilitary RSF commanded by his former deputy, Mohamed Hamdan Daglo (Hamditi), over disputes on integrating the RSF into the military.
Tens of thousands have been killed since, with both sides accused of atrocities.
The conflict has divided the country, with the army controlling the north and east and the RSF holding much of the western region of Darfur and swathes of the south.
