FM Abdelatty will “follow up on the outcomes of the Extraordinary Arab Summit held in Cairo and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation's extraordinary meeting in Jeddah on the Arab plan for early recovery and reconstruction of Gaza,” a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs read.
During the Jeddah emergency meeting on Saturday, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) also adopted the Arab plan agreed upon at the 4 March Cairo summit.
The plan details a three-stage process — an early recovery phase followed by two phases of extensive reconstruction — that will cost $53 billion.
This comes as Israel's brutal war on Gaza has demolished the strip’s infrastructure, killing over 48,000 Palestinians, injuring more than 111,000, and leaving thousands under rubble.
The Arab plan proposes bringing 200,000 temporary housing units into the strip for those left shelterless due to Israel's genocidal war.
The plan crafted by Egypt stands as a counterproposal to US President Donald Trump’s colonialist-style plan to take over the strip and forcibly displace Palestinians, which has shocked the Arab world and sparked a global outcry.
This Arab proposal aims to rebuild Gaza without displacing the territory's 2.4 million Palestinian population, who endured the horrors of over 15 months of war.
Trump’s proposal came amid a fragile ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel that took effect on 19 January after Egypt, Qatar, and the US had mediated between them for months.
Qatar is hosting a new round of negotiations on the Gaza ceasefire. The first 42-day phase expired in early March without an agreement on the second stage.
This comes as Israel avoids moving to the second phase of the ceasefire, which would entail a lasting end to the war and Israeli forces' withdrawal.
