Boko Haram's attack was carried out on Monday in Wulgo, a town on Cameroon’s border with Nigeria, and targeted a base of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), a regional military coalition set up to combat militant groups in the area.
In a statement, Egypt’s foreign ministry offered condolences to the government and people of Cameroon, as well as to the families of the victims, and wished a swift recovery to those injured.
The attack has drawn widespread condemnation. On Friday, the chairperson of the
African Union Commission, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, expressed deep shock and strongly denounced the assault. He reaffirmed the AU’s full support for Cameroon and other MNJTF member states, pledging continued efforts to strengthen security cooperation, counter-armed groups, and work toward peace in the region.
The attack underscores the persistent and evolving threat posed by extremist groups in the Lake Chad Basin, where Boko Haram and its offshoots have waged a violent insurgency for over a decade.
