In his call with Araghchi, Abdelatty discussed the developments in the Red Sea and stressed the importance of self-restraint to prevent further escalation of tensions.

He also emphasized the need to protect freedom of navigation and restore calm to avoid a spiral of violence.

Moreover, both ministers touched on the developments in the Gaza Strip, with FM Abdelatty highlighting Egypt's efforts to revive the ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel and proceed with its second phase.

During his call with Lammy, Abdelatty reviewed the developments in the Middle East, focusing on the situation in Gaza, according to a statement by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Abdelatty also briefed Lammy on Egypt's efforts to reinstate the ceasefire, implement its second phase, and halt the Israeli escalation.

Furthermore, he called for collective regional efforts to contain the escalation and prevent further conflict expansion.

Israel has reinforced its deadly blockade on the strip since 2 March, barring the entry of all humanitarian and medical aid.

On 18 March, Tel Aviv unilaterally ruptured the ceasefire agreement, resuming its genocidal war on Gaza.

Since then, it has killed at least 1,391 people. This raised the overall Palestinian death toll since 7 October 2023 to 50,752, mostly women and children.

Israel sought to extend the first phase of the ceasefire, which began on 19 January, and secure the release of all remaining captives from Gaza without offering anything in return. Consequently, it stalled talks for the second phase.

The two sides had initially agreed that the second phase of the truce would see the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza and a permanent end to the war in exchange for releasing all the remaining Israeli captives.

Since the resumption of  Israel's war on Gaza, Yemen's Houthis have launched retaliatory attacks targeting US and Israeli military ships transiting the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.

They said these attacks are in solidarity with the Palestinians in Gaza.
