Since 1994, a new phase began in the development of Azerbaijani relations with Egypt, marked by significant progress in political, economic, cultural, and educational fields in a relatively short period.

Dr. Sada Ali, founder of the "Discover Azerbaijan" project, delivered her remarks during the celebration of the 102nd anniversary of the birth of Heydar Aliyev, the revered leader and spiritual father of Azerbaijan. The event also coincided with the Azerbaijani Flower Festival Day.

During the celebration, a short film about Heydar Aliyev was screened. Egyptian student Lina recited the poem "Karabakh" in Azerbaijani, followed by her compatriot Dareen, who presented a heartfelt poem about Heydar Aliyev, also in Azerbaijani. Egyptian student Mahmoud also created a film in Arabic titled "Azerbaijan and Heydar Aliyev. "Renowned young Azerbaijani designer Zahra Polukhova spoke about the strong bonds of friendship between Azerbaijan and Egypt.

Sabina Samedova, coordinator of the Council of Azerbaijanis in Arab Countries under the State Committee on Work with Diaspora of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and Sandi Salem, Azerbaijani Peace Ambassador of ISESCO, jointly moderated the event.

Ten Egyptian students, winners of the "Discover Azerbaijan" project's essay competition on "Heydar Aliyev," were also introduced during the program.

Dr. Ali emphasised that Egypt has consistently supported Azerbaijan's just position in the United Nations, the Organisation of the Islamic Conference, and other international forums. In light of these strong bilateral ties, it is no surprise that a monument honouring the great statesman Heydar Aliyev was erected in Qalyubia Governorate, Cairo.

"Heydar Aliyev was a visionary leader and a courageous man who played a pivotal role in the revival of national prosperity and progress," Dr. Ali said. "Regardless of the political system, he always enjoyed the unwavering support of the people and confidently led Azerbaijan forward during his presidency from 1993 to 2003."

Dr. Ali further highlighted that Aliyev firmly believed in investing in youth, earning him the reputation as the founder of Azerbaijan's youth and sports policy. He laid down strong foundations and created enduring traditions that continue to hold a special place in the hearts of young people, whom he viewed as the future leaders and the nation's true wealth.

She noted that one of his most important priorities was ensuring access to quality education for young people. This vision materialised in establishing modern universities, scientific and cultural centres, and even the founding of entire cities.

Azerbaijani Peace Ambassador of ISESCO, Sandi Salem, added that the second part of the event celebrated the Azerbaijani Flower Festival Day. This festival has been commemorated throughout various historical periods, particularly in the Shirvan region and the northwestern areas of Azerbaijan. Today, it is held in the capital, Baku, as well as other cities, to honour the memory of Heydar Aliyev. The festival begins on 10 May—Aliyev's birthday—and continues for several days, concluding with grand fireworks displays.

Sandi also spoke about the profound impact of Aliyev's leadership on Azerbaijan's economy. "Under Heydar Aliyev, privatisation—a cornerstone of economic reform—was successfully implemented. Since 1996, Azerbaijan's GDP has grown steadily, and the country has witnessed a strong economic recovery. Smart reforms led to a dramatic increase in the state budget and boosted industries such as oil refining, mining, woodworking, glass, ceramics, and pottery production."

She concluded by saying, "Thanks to Heydar Aliyev's vision and legacy—and under the continued leadership of President Ilham Aliyev—Azerbaijan is experiencing dynamic growth. With unprecedented economic development, ongoing democratic and economic reforms, and a proactive foreign policy, Azerbaijan has emerged as a regional leader and a trusted partner in international relations."
