In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday, Egypt reiterated its firm rejection of any harm to the resources and well-being of the brotherly Sudanese people.

The statement emphasised the urgent need to spare civilian infrastructure and public utilities from the devastation of conflict and uphold Sudan's unity and stability. Egypt also stressed that such acts undermine efforts to restore stability and obstruct the delivery of humanitarian aid to those affected.

Egypt called on all Sudanese parties to implement an immediate ceasefire, prioritise dialogue and reason in order to safeguard the interests of the Sudanese people, and support a peaceful resolution that meets their aspirations for security and development.

On Saturday, a source from the Sudanese government reported a rare drone attack on Kassala, on Sudan's eastern border with Eritrea, about 400 kilometres (250 miles) from the nearest Rapid Support Militias-held territory.

On Sunday, the Rapid Support Militias struck Port Sudan on the Red Sea coast, the Sudanese army said, in the first attack on the seat of the Sudanese government in the country's two-year war.
