Egypt's Amr Aljowaily appointed director at African Union Commission

Ambassador Amr Aljowaily assumed his new role as Director of the Citizens and Diaspora Organisations Directorate (CIDO) at the African Union (AU) Commission in Addis Ababa, according to the Middle East News Agency (MENA).

In this capacity, Aljowaily will oversee the coordination of the AU's theme for 2025, "Justice for Africans and People of African Descent Through Reparations," whose activities will continue until the next AU Summit, scheduled for February 2026.

Upon taking up his duties, Aljowaily was welcomed by Ambassador Selma Malika Haddadi, Deputy Chairperson of the AU Commission, who expressed her best wishes for the Egyptian diplomat's success in his new role.

Aljowaily's leadership is expected to enhance the AU Commission's efforts in advocating for justice, reparations, and stronger diaspora ties worldwide.

His extensive diplomatic background positions him to lead this key directorate, which is crucial in shaping the AU's outreach and inclusive policies for African communities worldwide.
