The high-level source told Al-Qahera News that Egypt has urged all parties to display necessary flexibility to reach a ceasefire agreement that would end the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza.
The source noted that Cairo is intensifying efforts to bridge the gap between the concerned parties to reach a deal.
Earlier Monday, Hamas said it agreed to a US-backed proposal for a 70-day ceasefire in Gaza, which would see the release of 10 Israeli captives in exchange for a temporary halt in the genocide and the release of Palestinian prisoners, AFP reported.
Sources close to the negotiations said the new proposal was relayed through mediators and presented to both sides by US Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff.
However, Israel reportedly rejected the latest ceasefire proposal, according to The Times of Israel.
Egypt, along with Qatar and the US, has been mediating ceasefire talks between Israel and Hamas since the onset of the war in Gaza in October 2023.
On 18 March, Israel resumed its brutal war on Gaza after unilaterally ending a two-month ceasefire deal with Hamas.
Since 2 March, Israel has also blocked the entry of all humanitarian aid to Gaza, putting more than two million Palestinians on the brink of famine.
