During a phone call on Tuesday, both sides addressed the latest regional developments, mainly the situation in the Gaza Strip.

El-Sisi highlighted Egypt's ongoing efforts to reach a ceasefire agreement in Gaza and facilitate a prisoner-captives swap, according to a statement from the Egyptian presidency.

El-Sisi also stressed the need for concerted international efforts to press for an immediate end to the Israeli war and ensure the safe and unhindered entry of humanitarian aid to address the worsening humanitarian crisis in the strip.

El-Sisi and Costa further emphasised the importance of the upcoming UN International Conference for the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution, scheduled to be held in New York this June.

They also expressed their rejection of attempts to liquidate the Palestinian cause or displace Palestinians from their lands.

For his part, the European Council chief expressed the EU's support for Egypt's efforts to restore regional stability, describing Egypt as a fundamental cornerstone of its stability.

The statement noted that El-Sisi and Costa stressed the importance of ongoing coordination between Egypt and the EU on various regional and international issues.

During the call, both sides also discussed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation and intensify efforts to implement all aspects of the Egypt-EU comprehensive strategic partnership, strengthening ties across the political, economic, cultural, and scientific fields.
