During the call, the two ministers reviewed the situation in the Gaza Strip, highlighting the ongoing humanitarian catastrophe and the continued brutal Israeli aggression against the territory.

Around 2 million people in Gaza have become almost completely reliant on international aid after Israel enforced a blockade on the entry of supplies on 2 March.

Humanitarian assistance only resumed in limited quantities late last month, following mounting international pressure and urgent warnings of a looming famine.

The war has devastated much of Gaza’s infrastructure and forcibly displaced nearly 90 percent of its roughly two million residents.

Moreover, Abdelatty also briefed Minister Fidan on Egypt’s efforts to broker a ceasefire, secure the release of hostages and detainees, and ensure the delivery of humanitarian, medical, and shelter aid into Gaza.

Last week, Egypt and Qatar issued a joint statement reaffirming their commitment to intensifying efforts, based on a US proposal, to broker a ceasefire in Gaza and resume indirect negotiations between Israel and Hamas.

Since the start of Israel’s war on Gaza in October 2023, over 54,600 Palestinians—mostly women and children—have been killed and more than 125,500 injured, according to the Palestinian health ministry.

Libya developments

Minister Abdelatty also affirmed Egypt’s position regarding the situation in Libya, emphasising the preservation of Libya’s unity and territorial integrity, and the exclusive ownership of the political process by the Libyan people.

He also stressed the importance of holding presidential and parliamentary elections simultaneously as soon as possible.

On bilateral relations, Egypt's top diplomat praised the growing ties between Egypt and Turkey, expressing hope for further collaboration, especially in economic, investment, and trade sectors, given the countries' shared potential.
