Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani
In a phone call on Tuesday, the two top diplomats exchanged views on how to prevent further bloodshed among the Palestinian people, secure the release of captives and detainees, and ensure an immediate and unobstructed delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza.
In a statement, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Abdelatty also reviewed Egypt’s preparations for hosting the Conference on the Early Recovery and Reconstruction of Gaza, in collaboration with the Palestinian government and the United Nations, once a ceasefire agreement is reached.
The call comes amid continued Israeli military operations in Gaza. On Monday alone, at least 51 Palestinians, including 24 at a seafront rest area, were killed.
Hopes for a ceasefire have been renewed as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu prepares to visit Washington on 7 July. Moreover, US President Donald Trump urged Israel to "make the deal in Gaza."
According to the statement, the call also discussed ways to enhance bilateral relations between the two countries.
In this respect, Minister Abdelatty praised the growing ties between Egypt and Qatar, highlighting the strong historical bonds that serve the shared interests of both peoples.
The ministers also discussed the latest developments regarding the ceasefire between Iran and Israel.
Both top diplomats stressed the importance of consolidating the ceasefire, de-escalating tensions, and promoting diplomatic solutions.
FM Abdelatty also reaffirmed Egypt’s support for the resumption of negotiations on Iran’s nuclear programme and all efforts to achieve security and stability in the Middle East.
