According to the ERC, the shipment included around 2,300 tons of relief items—comprising nearly 2,200 tons of food baskets and flour, in addition to medical drugs and treatment supplies—aimed at supporting the food and health needs of Gaza’s residents.
Since 27 July, Egypt has dispatched aid convoys to Gaza to stem the spread of famine among 2.3 million Palestinians in Gaza due to the five-month Israeli blockade of the strip.
On Sunday, Egypt’s 11th aid convoy entered Gaza through the Rafah crossing, including three diesel tankers. The convoy included over 3,000 tons of food, medical supplies, personal care items, infant formula, and tens of thousands of loaves of bread prepared by the ERC.
According to the ERC Executive Director Amal Imam, Egypt has sent 36,000 trucks carrying more than 500,000 tons of aid since the start of the war in October 2023.
Moreover, the Egyptian Armed Forces have conducted airdrops of food into various areas in Gaza.
The renewed Egyptian push, in collaboration with international humanitarian organisations, comes to stem unfolding famine conditions among Gaza's 2.3 million population due to the Israeli blockade.
According to the United Nations, the entire population is now facing food insecurity. The Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) has also warned of a “worst-case scenario of famine.”
Palestinian health officials say the man-made famine has killed 212 civilians in Gaza, half of whom were children.
Egypt and international aid organisations have forged a partnership with the recent aid push after refusing to cooperate with the US/ Israeli so-called Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), which Israeli troops have used as bait to kill more than 1,500 desperate aid-seekers.
