Malaysia assumes the chairmanship of ASEAN for 2025, and the Philippines will assume it in 2026.
The ceremony was attended by heads of missions and representatives of the nine ASEAN missions present in Cairo, including Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.
Representatives of the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Counsellor Sherine El-Shahawy, representing the Institute for Diplomatic Studies, also attended the ceremony.
Several types of food from the ASEAN member countries were served during the ceremony.
Since its establishment on 8 August 1967 in Bangkok, ASEAN has grown from a small regional grouping into one of the most dynamic and credible regional organizations in the world, Kyaw Tin Shein, ambassador of Myanmar to Cairo and the ACC chair, said during the celebration.
“Our unity and solidarity remain the foundation of ASEAN’s strength, enabling us to contribute to peace, stability, and prosperity both in our region and globally,” added Shein.
He also highlighted that the ACC in Egypt has been working collectively to promote ASEAN’s identity and visibility.
Ambassador Shein expressed his sincere appreciation to all ACC members for their close collaboration.
He also thanked Lutfi Rauf, the ambassador of Indonesia to Egypt, and his dedicated team for the excellent arrangements in organising this distinguished event.
"As we raise the ASEAN flag today, let us renew our commitment to the ASEAN spirit of 'One Vision, One Identity, One Community' and to strengthening our unity for the future," the ambassador concluded.
