The Egyptian presidency stated that El-Sisi’s participation underscores “Egypt’s full solidarity with Qatar” and reflects its “unwavering position in standing by its brothers in confronting this aggression, which constitutes a flagrant violation of all international conventions and norms.”

El-Sisi will deliver Egypt’s address at the summit, setting out Cairo’s vision for regional developments and reaffirming its policy of supporting regional security and stability.

He will also hold bilateral meetings on the sidelines to discuss cooperation and coordination, the statement added.

Qatar called the summit to forge a unified Arab and Islamic response to the Israeli targeting of a residential building in Doha that was housing senior Hamas negotiators engaged in ceasefire talks on 9 September.

The negotiators survived the assassination attempt, but at least six people were killed, including the son of senior Hamas official Khalil al-Hayya and a Qatari security officer.

The attack, a violation of Qatari sovereignty, drew widespread regional and international condemnation and further underscored Israel’s determination to press ahead with its 23-month-long genocidal war on Gaza.

The summit, which opened on Sunday at the ministerial level, brings together leaders from across the Arab League and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), including Turkey, Iran, Indonesia, Pakistan, and Malaysia.
