In a statement on Wednesday, Egypt’s foreign ministry said the report by the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry (COI) documents “clear evidence” of grave violations by Israeli forces over nearly two years, including starvation, forced displacement, systematic destruction, and the deliberate targeting of civilians.
Cairo said the findings “disprove Israeli claims of compliance with international law” and amount to crimes against humanity.
It called for urgent steps to end the suffering of Palestinians in Gaza, ensure accountability for those responsible, and implement international legal rulings on the war.
The ministry reiterated that restoring Palestinian rights requires a just settlement that establishes an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The UN commission said in its report, released Tuesday, that Israeli authorities and security forces have committed four of the five acts of genocide defined under the 1948 Genocide Convention: killing, causing serious bodily or mental harm, deliberately inflicting conditions of life intended to destroy a group, and imposing measures to prevent births.
It added that explicit statements by Israeli civilian and military leaders, alongside the conduct of security forces, showed intent to destroy Palestinians in Gaza as a group, in whole or in part.
