In talks held in Riyadh on Thursday, the two top diplomats strongly condemned Israel’s military escalation in Gaza, describing it as a grave breach of international humanitarian law, particularly the protection of civilians in armed conflict.
During the meeting, Abdelatty and bin Farhan warned of catastrophic humanitarian consequences stemming from systematic starvation tactics and attempts at forced displacement.
The top diplomats reiterated their calls for an immediate and comprehensive halt to Israeli military aggression in Gaza, unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid to the strip, and stepped-up international efforts to end the war.
Both top diplomats emphasized the importance of increasing global recognition of the State of Palestine at the upcoming UN General Assembly in New York on 22 September.
They also discussed preparations for the upcoming international conference on Palestine, sponsored by Saudi Arabia and France, which is scheduled on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York on 22 September.
The top diplomats also reaffirmed their countries' denunciation of the recent Israeli attack on Qatar and condemned Tel Aviv's escalating violations in the West Bank.
The Egyptian foreign minister highlighted the significance of the recent Arab League resolution entitled “Shared Vision for Security and Cooperation in the Region" as a framework for advancing collective stability and peace.
Turning to Sudan, the foreign ministers reiterated their joint position outlined in the recent quartet statement, urging a humanitarian truce as a step toward a permanent ceasefire and the launch of an inclusive political process that preserves Sudan’s unity and national institutions.
The two sides also reviewed developments in Libya, Syria, Lebanon, and Yemen, underlining the need to support the sovereignty of state institutions and the territorial integrity of these countries.
In this regard, they condemned Israeli military interventions in both Syria and Lebanon.
Abdelatty and bin Farhan also reaffirmed that comprehensive political solutions remain the only path to lasting peace.
In addition, the foreign ministers underscored the importance of sustained coordination at all levels and the activation of the Egyptian-Saudi Higher Coordination Council, in preparation for its first presidential-level meeting.
The talks concluded with a joint pledge to maintain close coordination, reinforce the strategic partnership, and bolster Arab unity in pursuit of security, development, and stability across the region.
