It is the Singaporean leader’s first official trip to the Middle East and North Africa since taking office last year.
His visit, scheduled from 19 to 22 September, aims to strengthen political and economic ties, according to statements from both governments.

Shanmugaratnam is also scheduled to meet Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly to co-launch the Singapore-Egypt Business Forum and hold talks with Al-Azhar’s Grand Imam Ahmed El-Tayyeb and Pope Tawadros II of the Coptic Orthodox Church.
His programme includes visits to the Egyptian Red Crescent (ERC) headquarters and the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone), as well as a reception with the Singaporean community in Egypt to mark the city-state’s 60th anniversary.

Shanmugaratnam is accompanied by his wife, Jane Ittogi, government ministers, and officials, alongside a business delegation led by Singapore Business Federation chairman Teo Siong Seng.
