Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty met on Sunday with the heads of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the World Food Programme (WFP), and the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) in New York to boost humanitarian support for Gaza and highlight Egypt’s central role in delivering aid and managing regional crises.

During his meeting with ICRC President Mirjana Spoljaric Egger, Abdelatty reviewed Egypt’s efforts to stop the war in Gaza and allow aid entry to the strip, noting that Cairo has provided over 70 percent of the total assistance reaching the territory.

He praised the partnership between the Egyptian Red Crescent and the ICRC, highlighting their work in Gaza and Sudan.

He also called for joint action to stop violations of the Fourth Geneva Convention and welcomed Spoljaric’s stance against Israeli military attacks on civilians, medical staff, and aid workers.

Abdelatty warned against any plans to forcibly displace Palestinians, reaffirming Egypt’s opposition, and stressed the need for unhindered aid access.

He also briefed Spoljaric on preparations for the fifth Aswan Forum and an international conference on rebuilding Gaza once a ceasefire is in place.

During his talks with WFP Executive Director Cindy McCain, Abdelatty stressed Egypt’s focus on building food security systems amid climate shocks, supply chain disruptions, and global instability.

He suggested developing Egypt into a regional hub for grain storage and trade to strengthen food supply resilience across the Middle East.

He also outlined Egypt’s Vision 2030 initiatives to fight hunger, despite the pressure of hosting nearly 10 million foreigners, and called for more international support.

On Gaza, Abdelatty praised the WFP’s relief efforts despite attacks on its staff, welcomed its calls for a ceasefire, and reaffirmed Egypt’s continued provision of aid convoys through Rafah.

He warned against Israel's use of starvation as a weapon and invited the WFP to take part in the planned reconstruction conference.

During his meeting with UNHCR High Commissioner Filippo Grandi, Abdelatty thanked the agency for supporting Egypt as it hosts refugees and asylum seekers, while warning of the growing strain on Egyptian society.

He called on donors to step up funding and share responsibilities more equitably, emphasizing that Egypt remains committed to its international obligations.

The talks also focused on Gaza, with Abdelatty condemning the Israeli attacks on civilians and infrastructure and again rejecting any displacement plans.

He reiterated Egypt’s call for a ceasefire and for respect of international humanitarian law.

On Sudan, he outlined Egypt’s support for civilians and efforts to reach a settlement that preserves Sudan’s unity and institutions.

Grandi also praised Egypt’s key role in regional stability and pledged continued cooperation.

Abdelatty’s meetings came as part of a wider diplomatic mission in New York, as he will participate in the 80th UN General Assembly session there.

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly is leading Egypt’s delegation at the UNGA, while FM Abdelatty is holding a series of bilateral and multilateral meetings and delivering Egypt’s statements at key sessions.

Egypt’s participation aims to highlight its role in promoting regional peace, its development priorities, and its advocacy for international humanitarian law.

This year’s General Assembly, held under the theme “Together for a Better Future: 80 Years and Beyond for Peace, Development and Human Rights,” marks the UN’s 80th anniversary.

It brings together world leaders to address conflicts, sustainable development, and humanitarian challenges.
