10,000 PA police in training to secure post-war Gaza: Arab League envoy

Ambassador Maged Abdel-Fattah, head of the Arab League mission to the United Nations, said on Wednesday that around 10,000 PA police officers are undergoing training in several countries, including Egypt, Indonesia, and Jordan, to prepare them for assuming security responsibilities in post-war Gaza.

Ambassador Abdel-Fattah's remarks were made during a television interview on Yahduth fi Misr, broadcast on MBC Masr, on Wednesday.

During the interview, Abdel-Fattah noted that Arab and Muslim leaders have outlined preliminary steps for Gaza’s future after the war, including training thousands of Palestinian Authority (PA) police officers and deploying a temporary stabilization force.

He said the issue was raised during the leaders’ high-level meeting with US President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.

Under the plan, the force would first be stationed along the Egyptian-Israeli border before moving into Gaza “in coordination with Tel Aviv and Washington,” Abdel-Fattah explained.

Its deployment would coincide with the gradual withdrawal of Hamas and a phased pullout of Israeli troops from the territory.

The ambassador stated that logistical and procedural discussions have been ongoing since the Trump–Arab leaders meeting, with work already underway on issues such as force composition, staging, and sequencing.

He stressed that the formation of a stabilization force would require the backing of the UN Security Council and the support of the United States.

His comments shed light on the practical side of a broader 21-point US plan that Trump and his team presented to Arab and Muslim leaders in New York, outlining principles for Gaza’s post-war governance.

Although Washington has not released the full plan, diplomats say it covers security, reconstruction, and political arrangements, including eventual PA control.

Abdel-Fattah’s remarks also align with ongoing European-Arab talks about creating a multinational post-war stabilization framework, with France and regional states openly considering interim deployments.

However, officials admit that key questions remain unresolved, including the mandate of such a force, its command structure, and the international legal framework needed for its deployment.

The measures outlined by Abdel-Fattah form part of Trump’s 21-point plan, which diplomats say sets out a framework to end the Gaza war, secure a ceasefire, and shape the strip’s post-war governance.

According to participants briefed on the meeting, the plan’s core principles include excluding Hamas from any future governing role, ensuring unhindered humanitarian access, and mobilizing Arab and Muslim states to provide troops and funding to stabilize Gaza.

Trump is also reported to have assured Arab leaders that his administration would not permit the annexation of the West Bank, a pledge they described as essential to any wider settlement.
