Egypt’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Osama Abdel-Khalek, addressed the UN General Assembly session on the veto of a Security Council resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
Speaking for Egypt, in coordination with Arab and Islamic groups, Abdel-Khalek affirmed the region’s determination to defend Palestinian rights.
He said Egypt and its Arab partners support President Trump’s initiative to end the war in Gaza and trust Washington’s ability to broker peace. “We are ready to cooperate constructively with the United States and all relevant parties to finalise an agreement and ensure its implementation. Such an agreement would create prospects for peace, security, and stability across the region. It would also guarantee unrestricted humanitarian aid to Gaza, prevent the displacement of Palestinians, secure the release of hostages, establish a security mechanism to protect all parties, achieve a full Israeli withdrawal, and enable Gaza’s reconstruction.”
Abdel-Khalek pledged Cairo’s readiness to work with Washington and international partners to implement the agreement. He listed Egypt’s priorities: secure humanitarian access to Gaza, prevent Palestinian displacement, establish effective security guarantees, secure an Israeli withdrawal, and revive the two-state solution by fully unifying Gaza with the West Bank.
He urged the Security Council to uphold its responsibility to preserve international peace and security and to end the war in Gaza.
Abdel-Khalek reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to stand by the Palestinian people and defend their legitimate rights. He stressed that ending the Israeli occupation and reaching a just, comprehensive settlement of the Palestinian issue remains an urgent necessity.
