The meeting, convened by France, follows a ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel that took effect at 12:00 p.m. local time on Thursday, following talks in Sharm El-Sheikh.
In a statement, the Egyptian foreign ministry said the meeting builds on "recent positive developments in Sharm el-Sheikh," which it described as "a pivotal moment in the Gaza war."
The high-level meeting will bring together foreign ministers and senior officials from a broad group of nations and organisations, including France, Italy, the UK, Germany, Spain, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Qatar, the UAE, Indonesia, Turkey, the United States, and the European Union.
According to the agreement between Hamas and Israel, within 24 hours of signing, Israel would withdraw from specific areas in Gaza. Within 72 hours of signing, Palestinian factions will release captives, and Israel will release approximately 2,000 Palestinian prisoners.
US President Donald Trump is expected to embark on a Middle East trip on Sunday to attend the final signing.
In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump said the agreement provides for the release of all captives "soon" and for Israeli forces to withdraw to "an agreed line," calling it the first step toward a "strong, durable, and everlasting peace."
He added that all parties "will be treated fairly," describing the day as "a great day for the Arab and Muslim world, for Israel, for the United States, and for all neighbouring nations."
Since 7 October 2023, Israel's genocidal war on Gaza has left over 67,000 Palestinians dead and nearly 168,000 wounded, mostly women and children.
Two years of Israeli carpet bombing destroyed most of Gaza's homes and infrastructure and displaced the majority of its 2.3 million population.
In tandem, an Israeli blockade on the entry of food, water, and medicine has plunged the population into famine, the first-ever in the Middle East.
