According to the Egyptian Presidency, El-Sisi reviewed the details of the agreement reached on 8 October in Sharm El-Sheikh and presented Egypt’s vision for the next phase, including mechanisms for implementing the accord based on US President Donald Trump’s peace plan.

The president stressed the importance of preserving the role and legitimacy of the Palestinian Authority and creating conditions conducive to establishing a Palestinian state in line with international legitimacy resolutions.

El-Sisi also invited the German chancellor to attend the ceremony Egypt will host next week to mark the signing of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza.

The spokesperson added that the two leaders also discussed relations between Egypt and Germany as well as Egypt’s ties with the European Union.

El-Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s keenness to strengthen cooperation with Germany across various fields.

For his part, Chancellor Merz expressed his country’s appreciation for Egypt’s vital role in reaching the ceasefire agreement, affirming Germany’s support for the accord and its hope that it will serve as a step toward lasting peace in the region.

He also welcomed Egypt’s plan to host the Gaza reconstruction conference.

Earlier Friday, Friedrich Merz announced that his country wants to co-host with Egypt a reconstruction conference for the Gaza Strip.

In March, during the Cairo extraordinary Arab-Islamic summit, President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi announced that Egypt would host an international conference on early recovery and reconstruction of the Gaza Strip.

Cairo has repeatedly stated that the conference will proceed as soon as a ceasefire is implemented.

Egypt has also developed a comprehensive reconstruction plan for Gaza to facilitate early recovery and long-term reconstruction efforts led by Palestinians.

The plan, endorsed by Arab and Islamic nations, also focuses on restoring essential infrastructure, addressing humanitarian needs, and ensuring sustainable development.
