During his meeting with the Sudanese foreign minister, FM Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s solidarity with Sudan, stressing Cairo’s full support for the country’s security, stability, sovereignty, and unity.

According to a Foreign Ministry statement, Abdelatty highlighted Egypt’s active role in efforts to achieve a ceasefire, establish a humanitarian truce, and ease the suffering of the Sudanese people, reiterating Egypt’s commitment to helping Sudan overcome its current crisis.

The two ministers also discussed ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation.

Abdelatty welcomed plans to hold the second Egypt-Sudan Business Forum later this year, the Joint Trade Committee meetings in Cairo, and an upcoming visit by a Sudanese Investment Ministry delegation to benefit from Egypt’s investment experience.

He also reviewed Egypt’s ongoing efforts to rebuild key infrastructure in Khartoum, including work on the Halfaya and Shambat bridges, and affirmed Egypt’s readiness to help rehabilitate Sudan’s electricity, water, health, and education sectors.

On water security, both ministers reaffirmed the shared position of Egypt and Sudan as downstream countries, calling for full respect of international law in the Eastern Nile Basin and rejecting any unilateral actions on the Nile.

In a separate meeting with UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi, Abdelatty expressed appreciation for the strong cooperation between Egypt and the UN refugee agency and for the efforts of its Cairo office in supporting asylum seekers.

He noted the significant burden Egypt bears as host to nearly 10 million foreigners, including refugees, migrants, and asylum seekers, who receive basic services on an equal basis with Egyptian citizens.

According to a statement by the Foreign Ministry, both sides discussed the importance of launching a Refugee Response Plan for Egypt to ensure sustainable refugee services and strengthen the resilience of host communities.

Abdelatty also reaffirmed Egypt’s commitment to involving UNHCR and civil society organizations in drafting the executive regulations of the new Asylum Law, noting that the Foreign Ministry had hosted two broad consultations that included UNHCR representatives and NGOs active in refugee support.

Launched in 2019 during Egypt’s presidency of the African Union, the Aswan Forum serves as Africa’s leading platform for linking peace, security, and development through an African-led, action-focused approach.

Organized by the Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping, and Peacebuilding (CCCPA) under the auspices of the President of Egypt, the forum is recognized by the AU Peace and Security Council as a key mechanism for advancing the “Silencing the Guns” agenda.

The fifth edition, held in Aswan on 19-20 October under the theme “A World in Flux, A Continent in Motion,” focuses on navigating Africa’s progress amid global polarization, climate pressures, and economic shifts.

This year’s forum highlighted the link between peace, development, and humanitarian action, as well as the empowerment of women and youth and post-conflict reconstruction.

It also reaffirmed Egypt’s role as a regional convener for stability and sustainable growth across Africa.
