The foreign ministry emphasized the importance of upholding the UN Charter and its noble principles aimed at achieving international peace, security, and sustainable development.
In a statement, Egypt reiterated its firm belief in strengthening the effectiveness of multilateral action as a cornerstone for building stable international relations based on respect for international law and a rules-based global order.
Such efforts, the statement noted, contribute to achieving collective peace, security, coexistence, and tolerance among nations.
Egypt also affirmed its continued commitment to promoting regional and international peace and security through a foreign policy grounded in the principles of the United Nations — respect for international law, peaceful settlement of disputes, non-interference in the internal affairs of states, and enhanced multilateral cooperation to address shared challenges.
As a founding member of the UN, Egypt has played a pivotal role in supporting the organization and its principles, becoming one of its key regional hubs.
The country currently hosts 38 UN offices employing more than 2,300 staff members.
Egypt is also among the top contributors to UN peacekeeping operations, ranking seventh globally in the number of military experts and 13th in the number of uniformed personnel deployed to peacekeeping missions.
Egyptian peacekeepers currently total 1,199, including 102 women, representing around 10 percent of the national contingent — a testament to Egypt’s commitment to supporting peacekeeping efforts.
Over the years, Egypt has served six terms as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, where it played a leading role in issues related to international peace and security, particularly in Africa and the Arab world.
During its most recent term (2016–2017), Egypt focused on promoting political settlements to conflicts, countering terrorism and extremism, and addressing humanitarian crises worldwide.
Reaffirming its belief in the UN’s central role in maintaining global peace, security, and development, Egypt advocates a comprehensive vision for reforming the organization to better reflect current international realities.
This includes correcting the historical imbalance against Africa and developing countries through the reform and expansion of the Security Council, in line with the African Common Position outlined in the Ezulwini Consensus and the Sirte Declaration.
Egypt concluded its statement by calling on the international community to unite in supporting the UN and reforming its mechanisms and institutions to meet the aspirations of peoples for peace, stability, and development.
