The event was attended by officials from the Greek Ministry of Defence, members of the diplomatic corps, and members of the Egyptian community in Greece.
Guests praised the ceremony, which highlighted the achievements of the Egyptian Armed Forces and Egypt’s ongoing development under the leadership of President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi.
Ambassador of Egypt to Greece Omar Amer and his spouse, Defence Attaché Staff Colonel Amr Mohamed Rashad and his spouse Hadeer Mongi, and Deputy Defence Attaché Navy Lieutenant Commander Mohab Abdel Ghany and his wife Rania Abdel-Ghany welcomed the guests.
Among the attendees were Counsellor Ahmed El-Ghoul, deputy chief of mission of the Egyptian embassy in Greece; George Kelliny, consul of Egypt to Greece; Dimitrios-Eleftherios Kataras, chief of the Hellenic Navy General Staff; Aamar Qureshi, ambassador of Pakistan to Greece; and Youssef Dorkhom, ambassador of Palestine to Greece.
“On 6 October 1973, the Egyptian Armed Forces achieved a victory that restored not only our land, but also our dignity and our confidence, with determination and unity. They crossed the Suez Canal, proving perseverance and faith can turn the impossible into reality,” Ambassador Amer said during his speech.
He added that the spirit of October continues to inspire Egyptians, reminding them that “through resilience, discipline, and unity, a nation can overcome any challenge and shape its destiny.”
“Today, under the leadership of President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, Egypt carries forward the same spirit of October, building a modern state, protecting our sovereignty, and working tirelessly to promote peace and stability in our region,” Amer stated.
He highlighted Egypt’s ongoing efforts to support dialogue and peace, citing the recent Sharm El-Sheikh Summit for Peace, hosted by President El-Sisi and attended by world leaders, reaffirming Egypt’s “unwavering commitment to peace, dialogue, and security.”
The ambassador emphasized that Egypt remains “a voice of reason, balance, and stability, calling for peace that is just, comprehensive, and lasting.”
He also noted the strong ties between Egypt and Greece, describing the two nations as “ancient civilizations united by geography, shared history, and common values.”
Referring to President El-Sisi’s visit to Greece in May, Amer said the two countries had elevated their relationship to a strategic partnership, marking “a new chapter based on mutual trust, respect, and a shared vision for stability and prosperity in the Eastern Mediterranean.”
“Today, Egypt and Greece stand together as pillars of regional stability, working hand-in-hand in defence, energy, and maritime security, and coordinating closely on regional and international issues,” he said.
Amer also spoke about Egypt’s investment in culture and heritage, noting the upcoming opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum in Giza, which he described as “the largest archaeological museum in the world and a bridge between civilizations.”
He expressed appreciation to Colonel Rashad, the new defence attaché, for his professionalism and dedication and thanked him and his team for organizing the celebration.
“To our distinguished guests, your presence here this evening is a reflection of the strong bonds that unite our peoples. To our Egyptian community, let us always remember the courage and sacrifice of those who fought for our nation, and let us remain inspired by the spirit of October as we build a future of peace, pride, and progress. Long live Egypt. Long live Greece,” Amer concluded.
In his address, Colonel Rashad thanked the guests and said the October victory restored Egypt’s dignity, the pride of its people, and the honour of its Armed Forces.
“The men of the Armed Forces are the sons of this great nation, men who shaped its glory and continue to safeguard its achievements,” he said, adding that Egypt’s Armed Forces remain vigilant and fully capable of acting swiftly to protect the nation’s interests and deter any threat.
Lieutenant Commander Abdel-Ghany said the October victory reflected the courage, unity, and determination of the Egyptian people and their Armed Forces, who overcame immense challenges to achieve triumph.
