During his meeting with President Aoun at Baabda Palace, Ambassador Moussa conveyed the greetings of President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi and expressed Egypt’s confidence in President Aoun’s ability to guide Lebanon through a critical stage in its modern history.

The talks covered recent regional developments and ways to strengthen the longstanding ties between Egypt and Lebanon, according to a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Ambassador Moussa emphasized Egypt’s continued support for Lebanon’s state institutions and reconstruction efforts. He also highlighted Cairo’s backing for initiatives aimed at achieving comprehensive economic recovery and reinforcing national stability.

He reiterated Egypt’s firm rejection of Israel’s repeated violations of the ceasefire agreement and called for Israel’s full withdrawal from all occupied Lebanese territories, allowing the Lebanese Armed Forces to exercise full sovereignty across the country, including border areas.

President Aoun expressed his deep appreciation for Lebanon’s historic and brotherly ties with Egypt and thanked Cairo for its ongoing support during difficult times.

He praised President El-Sisi’s leadership and diplomatic efforts to promote peace and stability in the region, affirming Lebanon’s confidence that Egypt will continue to stand by the Lebanese people.

In a separate meeting, Ambassador Moussa discussed with PM Mikati preparations for the upcoming session of the Egyptian-Lebanese Joint High Committee, scheduled to convene later this week in Beirut.

The talks focused on ensuring the committee’s discussions lead to tangible progress in economic, trade, and development cooperation between the two countries.

The two sides also reviewed recent political and security developments in Lebanon and the wider region.

Ambassador Moussa reaffirmed Egypt’s unwavering solidarity with Lebanon, stressing Cairo’s commitment to working closely with the Lebanese government to promote stability, reconstruction, and prosperity.

Egypt and Lebanon share a long-standing relationship rooted in deep historical, cultural, and political ties.

Cairo was among the first Arab capitals to recognize Lebanon’s independence in 1943, and the two nations have maintained close coordination through the Arab League, the United Nations, and other regional forums.

In recent years, Egypt has played a key role in supporting Lebanon during its overlapping political and economic crises, particularly after the Beirut Port explosion in 2020. Egypt dispatched emergency medical aid, reconstruction materials, and technical experts, and helped arrange energy supply agreements to ease Lebanon’s electricity shortages.

The upcoming session of the Egyptian-Lebanese Joint High Committee, co-chaired by the foreign ministers of both countries, is the highest-level bilateral forum for cooperation. It covers key areas such as trade, investment, electricity interconnection, port management, tourism, education, and cultural exchange.

The committee last met in Cairo in 2023, where several memoranda of understanding were signed, including agreements on vocational training, food security, and support for small enterprises.
