Egypt, UNDP discuss preparations for Gaza recovery conference
Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty met on Wednesday with Abdullah Al-Dardari, the United Nations (UN) Assistant Secretary-General and Director of the UN Development Program (UNDP) Regional Bureau for Arab States, to discuss preparations for the International Conference on Early Recovery, Reconstruction, and Development in Gaza, due to be hosted by Egypt in November.
Abdelatty underscored the importance of broad participation from all UN agencies and programmes in the conference, highlighting the need to draw on their technical expertise, particularly during the early recovery phase leading to Gaza’s reconstruction.
He expressed Egypt’s hope that UNDP would help ensure clear commitments to launch immediate recovery projects aimed at alleviating the suffering of the Palestinian people.
The two officials also reviewed ongoing cooperation between Egypt and UNDP. Abdelatty praised the programme’s role in supporting Egypt’s national development priorities and said Cairo looks forward to deeper collaboration aligned with the UN’s 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, especially in job creation, investment attraction, and industrial growth.
The minister reaffirmed Egypt’s support for UN efforts to promote sustainable development across the Middle East amid current political, security, and economic challenges, stressing Egypt’s role as a key partner in fostering regional cooperation and experience-sharing among developing countries.
