According to the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, Abdelatty made these remarks during phone calls with his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi, and the IAEA Director General, Rafael Grossi.

During the calls, the Egyptian FM emphasised the necessity of working to intensify communications between Iran and the IAEA in the coming period.

The calls come within the framework of following up on developments in the Iranian nuclear file and working to support regional security and stability.

Abdelatty’s communications also aim to find peaceful solutions to the Iranian nuclear issue, de-escalate tensions, and achieve calm in the Middle East.

Over the past months, Egypt has pushed diplomatic efforts to resume cooperation between Iran and the IAEA, urging ongoing dialogue, intensified coordination, and peaceful solutions.

On 9 September, Iran and the IAEA reached an agreement under Egyptian facilitation, which marked a step toward renewed dialogue over Iran’s nuclear activities.

The agreement was reached following a trilateral meeting between the Egyptian and Iranian foreign ministers, along with the IAEA chief, in Cairo.

The deal stipulated allowing inspectors to return to key Iranian sites, including nuclear facilities damaged during US and Israeli strikes in June, an attack that prompted Tehran to halt cooperation.

However, a series of UN sanctions have been reimposed on Iran since the deal due to what European parties to the 2015 nuclear deal consider Tehran’s non-compliance with the IAEA and the collapse of peace talks with the US.

In response, Tehran stated that following these sanctions,  cooperation with the IAEA was no longer relevant.
