Egypt's 64th aid convoy enters Gaza amid renewed Israeli bombardment

Egypt has sent its 64th aid convoy into the Gaza Strip, carrying more than 300,000 food parcels, 1,000 tons of flour, 2,000 tons of medical and relief supplies, and 1,300 tons of fuel, amid renewed Israeli airstrikes and fragile ceasefire conditions.

The convoy, launched at dawn on Monday by the Egyptian Red Crescent (ERC), is part of the Zad Al-Izza – From Egypt to Gaza humanitarian initiative, which was launched on 27 July to alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people.

The dispatch highlights Cairo’s commitment to supporting Gaza’s population as humanitarian needs increase and access routes remain limited.

Since the war began in October 2023, Egypt has delivered over half a million tons of assistance, approximately 70 percent of all aid reaching Gaza.

“The Rafah crossing has never been closed from the Egyptian side,” a previous ERC statement said, noting that the organization’s 35,000 volunteers continue to operate around the clock from logistics hubs in North Sinai.

The convoy follows a weekend visit by Colombian President Gustavo Petro, who joined ERC volunteers in Cairo to pack food parcels for Gaza.

“I packed a box of food aid for the Palestinian people at the Red Crescent,” Petro said, adding that the organization “is a cornerstone of a new humanity, one that fights against barbarity and genocide.”

However, conditions inside Gaza remain volatile as Israeli airstrikes hit Khan Younis and Gaza City early Monday, killing several Palestinians and wounding dozens.

The attacks came despite a month-long ceasefire that has reduced large-scale fighting but failed to stop sporadic violence.

In the occupied West Bank, two Palestinians were shot dead by Israeli forces on Sunday, raising fears of wider unrest.

Israel confirmed the retrieval of three more captive bodies from tunnels in southern Gaza, bringing the total recovered since August to 17.
