Hosted by the Swedish Embassy at the ambassador’s residence on Friday, the exhibition coincided with the visit of Sweden’s Culture Minister Parisa Liljestrand, who arrived in Cairo on Saturday to attend the inauguration of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), and brought together Egyptian and Swedish artists, historians, and cultural figures.

Titled The Royal Visits to Egypt in the 1890s, the show features a selection of images captured by Queen Victoria, consort to King Gustaf V (1907–1930), who was an avid amateur photographer.

Her photographs document Egypt’s ancient monuments, street scenes, and desert landscapes with quiet intimacy and a sharp eye for detail.
“Queen Victoria’s photographs reflect a profound appreciation for Egypt’s cultural heritage and a spirit of curiosity that continues to inspire Swedish–Egyptian relations,” said Dag Juhlin-Dannfelt, Sweden’s ambassador to Egypt.
The evening exhibition was curated to highlight the long history of cultural exchange between Egypt and Sweden and to celebrate the role of art in fostering dialogue across borders and generations.
