Egypt has sent its 66th humanitarian convoy to the Gaza Strip on Wednesday, comprising several trucks carrying urgent relief supplies, the Egyptian Red Crescent (ERC) said in a statement.

According to the ERC, the convoy includes over 250,000 food baskets, 1,000 tons of flour, 2,200 tons of medical and relief supplies, and 1,200 tons of fuel.

The convoy was dispatched amid ongoing Israeli attacks on Gaza, despite the ceasefire agreement brokered by Egypt, the US, Qatar, and Turkey on 9 October.

On Tuesday, the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) warned of an unprecedented humanitarian and agricultural catastrophe in Gaza as a result of the genocidal Israeli war.

In its annual report, the FAO said Gaza has become entirely dependent on humanitarian assistance to meet its food needs, warning that ongoing restrictions on the entry of agricultural supplies and fuel could lead to widespread famine in the coming months.

The organization noted that 90 percent of Gaza’s population cannot access enough food and classified Gaza as one of the four worst food crises in the world for 2024–2025, alongside Sudan, Yemen, and Afghanistan.

The FAO called for an urgent, multi-sectoral response addressing food security, water, health, and psychosocial support to prevent a total humanitarian collapse in the strip.

On 22 August, the UN declared a famine in Gaza, the first ever in the Middle East.

Over nearly two years of war, Egypt has remained Gaza's main lifeline, sending more than 45,000 trucks carrying over 600,000 tons of humanitarian supplies, which account for about 70 percent of all aid delivered to the strip.

On 27 July, the ERC launched the Zad Al-Ezza: From Egypt to Gaza initiative as part of Cairo’s ongoing efforts to ease the suffering of the Palestinian people.

The shipments have included food, water, medicine, medical equipment, hygiene kits, shelter materials, baby formula, diapers, ambulances, and fuel trucks.

Egypt has also intensified its efforts by sending bulldozers and engineering equipment into Gaza to clear debris, repair damaged roads, and ensure the continuous flow of aid.
